Cowgirls fall short of a win against the Lady Pirates of Page in conf tennis action

Falling short may be a slight understatement.

Page is tough.  Having bested the Cowgirls 8-1 the first time, Page adjusted their lineup to offer their ladies a different look at each of the Cowgirl talent spots.

Coach fooled them.  Audrey was sick.  Every Cowgirl shifted up…..meaning it was like the Pirates added another person to the top of their roster and pushed everyone down a spot.

No, it didn’t end well on any court tonight.

Though the Cowgirls played their games and more…no court found traction enough for Coach to entertain the masses with their over the top endeavors in story form.

So….Coach doesn’t have a mini novel to write tonight.

Coach understands the reader is sad.  But buck up…This was the toughest week the Cowgirls will encounter all season.  The ladies travel to Western on Monday, RJR on Tuesday and return home on Wednesday to face off against the Northern Lady Nighthawks.  In contrast to this week’s games…next week is almost a bye week.

So….the recap.

Without Audrey at the helm, all the ladies had to play up, severely hindering their ability to influence any real change in their matches on a large scale.  Simply put, the Lady Pirates gave little quarter in their pursuit of a quick and merciful end of the respective matches.  The Cowgirls all were competitive in their play and individual points but couldn’t secure enough points to claim significant gains in games.  So too in doubles where Coach threw convention to the wind, dropping Anna and Lauren from the dubs schedule to allow Rachael and Betsy to test their skills against a very experienced foe in prep of the conference tourney just over 3 weeks away.  Speight and Church joined them playing up a spot with a future top six team of Bella Johnson and Elena Perko joining the party at #3 dubs.  In dubs, these 6 cowgirls fought bravely and managed to collect 5 games in total…not a bad haul against the Kraken of a Page team.

[Kraken, in this regard, isn’t meant in a derogatory way saying they were evil or a giant monster only found in the ocean or mythology, rather, a strong nemesis of which the Cowgirls couldn’t withstand….perhaps a Siren would have played better, but for the reason the Cowgirls are inherently female and Sirens normally call forth and drag male sailors to their watery grave….Kracken sounded more ferocious…..and let it be said that the Lady Pirates all were extremely cordial and beautiful in both their play and graciousness towards both the ladies and Coach]  If you are going to be outmatched in tennis talent, at least be nice about it…and the Lady Pirates were wonderful hosts tonight.

The Great news….Coach didn’t lose any of the Cowgirls in their very tough match week.  Yes, most of the parents are very grateful Coach brought them all back home safely.  The Cowgirls live to fight another week and are sure to bring great on court stories to Coach’s eye and typing ability.

Good night reader.  Coach wishes you a great and restful weekend ahead….and Go Cowboy’s this Friday night!!!
